The Paradigm Innovation Symposium is a transformative event connecting colleagues, partners, and collaborators to explore thought-provoking topics with forward-looking speakers. Taking place March 27–28 in Nashville, TN, this year’s theme focused on opening doors to better care—and how working together for greater health equity benefits everyone. Presenters illuminated the need for a more fair, transparent, and functional health system and how leaders can address the wide array of factors that impact both access to care and health outcomes.
The power of your story
Opening the symposium on Thursday evening was Jimmy Yeary, a prolific songwriter who has been working in Nashville for almost 30 years. Across a career creating award-winning hits for various artists—including Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, and George Strait—Jimmy shared that the secret to his status as a highly sought-after collaborator is an ability to connect deeply and quickly through personal stories. Within seconds, a heartfelt story can connect people and help them work to accomplish goals together. When it comes to building equitable outcomes, he believes stories have a unique ability to level the playing field and put people on the same footing. In a fun, performance-driven talk that included live renditions of his hits and an interactive songwriting exercise, Jimmy demonstrated how specific, relatable details can appeal to our shared humanity and help us reach common goals.

Caring for more with less
Kicking off Friday morning was tech innovation leader and trusted public health expert Vin Gupta, MD, MPA. Throughout a distinguished career, Dr. Gupta has led initiatives propelling the world into the future of healthcare and has unique insights into our greatest challenges. To solve the question of how to care for more people with less in an aging society facing a healthcare worker shortage and widespread public mistrust, he believes better diagnostics, earlier treatment, at-home care, and AI-supported clinical decision-making will be essential. Ultimately, Dr. Gupta has an optimistic view and believes it is possible for businesses, providers, and leaders to work together to develop technology-driven, human-focused solutions that improve access and quality of care.

The intersection of health, technology, and people
To close out the Innovation Symposium, keynote speaker Jane Sarasohn-Kahn, MA, MHSA, examined how a new set of social determinants of health that has emerged since the pandemic is transforming the healthcare landscape and the steps we can take to build a more equitable system. A frequent speaker and writer on healthcare, consumerism, digital health, and health equity, Jane’s presentation covered how income inequality, nutrition, social isolation, and misinformation are contributing to increased spending and negative outcomes in American health that will only grow in the coming years. From developing healthier eating habits to increasing high-speed internet access, Jane stressed the need for collaborative, trust-based solutions that can overpower grievance and misinformation to build a healthier society.
