Paradigm news

Building Upon 30 Years of Growth

After a historic and challenging year, 2021 offered new opportunities to see people and places so many of us had been missing. For the Paradigm team, this meant being able to help more people face to face, even as many interactions have remained remote. We also had more chances to reunite with coworkers at the office and professional events, while navigating the complexities of hybrid, virtual, and in-person workplaces.

Also in 2021, we marked the 30th anniversary of our organization since the founding of Paradigm Outcomes in 1991. This anniversary enabled us to reflect on our core values and ensure they remain fundamental to our operations, particularly as we continue to undergo exciting growth.

Mission statements are meant to be repeated. And Paradigm’s mission to help as many people as possible by restoring each injured individual’s health, spirit, and hope for a brighter future was repeated often this year. In 2021, as Paradigm announced multiple dynamic initiatives, partnerships, and achievements, we wanted to be sure our mission permeated everything we accomplished.

Our unwavering commitment to the injured individuals we serve
After thriving in a time that required adaptation, resilience, and perseverance, Paradigm was eager to hit the ground running in 2021. With a commitment to positive, human-centered growth in our industry, our entire team worked hard to ensure this commitment continued as we marked our 30th anniversary. Our dedication enabled us to once again meet and exceed our performance goals for the year, while achieving many critical strategic objectives.

Notable 2021 highlights for Paradigm:

  • Joined forces with HomeCare Connect: On December 8, Paradigm announced the acquisition of HomeCare Connect, a leading specialty network focused on home health, durable medical equipment (DME), and related services, with specific expertise in servicing catastrophic and complex cases. This acquisition will broaden Paradigm’s specialty network and clinical solution sets to extend our accountable care management model into the home. HomeCare Connect possesses a highly complementary set of offerings and represents a logical extension into the growing home health market.
  • Strengthened our leadership with key talent: As we looked to grow as a unified company, senior leadership identified multiple areas where dynamic new roles would help us accomplish strategic goals. In May, Paradigm was excited to welcome Tom Mafale as Chief Growth Officer and Jason Cooper as Chief Data and Analytics Officer. Other key additions have been Elizabeth Ulloa Lowry as Senior Vice President of Case Management, Kaye Lewis in the role of Vice President of Client Implementation, and former Humana executive, Elizabeth Bierbower, to our Board of Directors.
  • Honored Kathy Galia as 2021 Women to Watch: We were extraordinarily proud in November when Paradigm Senior Vice President & General Manager, Clinical Solutions, Kathy Galia, was selected as a 2021 Women to Watch honoree by Business Insurance. This award recognizes the outstanding work of women in our industry and was given to Kathy after an extensive nomination process.
  • Launched industry-first, value-based partnerships with best-in-class providers: In April, Paradigm announced the launch of an innovative, value-based relationship with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, a top-ranked national rehabilitation hospital. We expanded this initiative in July with the addition of Brooks Rehabilitation. Value-based partnerships raise the level of collaboration and accountability with providers in an effort to continue improving outcomes for injured patients and our clients.
  • Unveiled HERO Episodic and HERO Severe products: Episodes of care is a value-focused approach used to diagnose and treat a condition or injury by bundling all services associated with treatment into a single patient experience, often for a fixed payment. With the realization of the potential this model holds for workers’ compensation, Paradigm launched HERO EpisodicSM, a solution for shorter-term musculoskeletal workplace injuries. This offering will align with Paradigm’s long-standing HERO CatastrophicSM solution and HERO SevereSM —our recently launched product that uses the full power of our catastrophic model for a wide range of severe injuries.
  • Committed to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace: Paradigm is passionate about fostering a workplace and culture that better reflects our society. We realized that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) is not a finish line or set endpoint, which is why we formed a DEI steering committee led by Paradigm General Counsel Rashmi Nijagal. In building a workplace that allows everyone to bring their whole self to work, the committee launched several programs, including inclusive leadership training, an implicit bias workshop, and participatory cultural recognition events.
  • Drove thought leadership at key industry events: As the world began to open back up, Paradigm representatives were able to once again attend industry conferences and events. Notably, in October, our thought leaders, Kevin Turner, Kathy Galia, and Dr. Michael Choo, attended National Comp 2021 and spoke about episodic care management. In December at Workers’ Compensation Institute, Paradigm thought leaders Chris Pricco, Kathy Galia, Teresa Williams, and Jan Saunders took part in WCI TV. And, from our Case Management Solutions team, Kathy McNulty and Patchez Pirtle presented about transitional return to work and prosthetics, respectively.
