Celebrating Our Nurses

  • Thoughts from Jo Carter, RN, BSN, CCM, Paradigm Outcomes’ vice president of network services.

Nurses are the heart of Paradigm Outcomes. Our nurse case managers coordinate care and support the recovery of our injured workers while our directors of clinical services support the care management process and bring valuable expertise to every case.

Each year, during National Nurses Week May 6-12, we appreciate and celebrate our nurse colleagues for their professionalism and compassion.

Here’s what some of our superheroes have to say about caring for others and for themselves:

Caring for others

“I just love what I do. I’ve been an RN since 1973 and done just about everything, but this is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. I’m inspired by people who want to get better and companies that support that. It’s rewarding to facilitate the best care and treatment to achieve the best outcome.”

Sherry Ficklin, RN, Paradigm Network Manager

“Stress can go right through the phone to your team. Staying calm makes the quality of all the work we do better. We don’t feel rushed, so we take the time to evaluate and focus. I know I’m a work in progress and my practice will improve with time. I strive to be like our experienced DCSes.”

-Lisa Farrell-Roberts RN, MN; Director of Clinical Services

“Where has Paradigm been my whole life? This is the best place I’ve ever worked. Physicians act differently when I’m there and I know I’m going to get the best care for my client.”

-Kim Roberts, RN, Paradigm Network Manager

 Caring for Themselves

“I try to run every day to keep stress levels down and I attend Bible study to stay in tune spiritually with myself and others.”

-Tracy McDowell, RN, Paradigm Network Manager

“My grandchildren are my greatest joy. I try to see them every weekend. I love to garden and grow herbs, like rosemary, for cooking. I also have azaleas and camellias.”

-Patricia Bonner, RN, Paradigm Network Manager

“My balance mentally, physically and spiritually comes from working out 4-5 days a week and staying active. I kickbox 3 days a week, run 3-5 miles 3 days a week and follow a diet low in fats and high in fruits, veggies and proteins. Sounds like a commercial, I know, but it holds true. As someone who did yo-yo dieting with no mental or spiritual balance for many years, I know my current mentality is key. Over past 9 years, I’ve dropped from a Size 18 to a Size 8, and I keep myself balanced daily.”

-Angie Quick, RN, Paradigm Network Manager

“I’m working on my master’s in nursing. It’s a self-paced program, so I hope to be done in 16 months. I enjoy time with my daughter and son. My boxer, Tori, keeps me busy, too. But she only
barks when I’m on Paradigm conference calls.”

-Amy Meltzer, RN, Paradigm Network Manager
