Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, also known as CRPS, is comprised of vague symptoms that can often be misdiagnosed. This video highlights the main symptoms of CRPS and suggests ways to accurately diagnose the condition.

The features of CRPS include disproportionate pain, swelling, vasomotor instability, and movement abnormalities. This subjective criteria often leads to over-diagnosis of the syndrome. The solution to this problem is found in objective findings like those obtained using the Budapest Criteria. Once correctly diagnosed, taking a biopsychosocial approach is the most effective way to achieve the best possible functional outcomes.
