Case management is the foundation that enables people with workplace injuries to recover and return to productive activity. With challenging cases, having the right team in place is everything and case managers are indispensable when it comes to ensuring that the right care is given at the right time. Because of the wide range of injuries and paths to wellness, effective workers’ compensation case management must be both comprehensive and highly focused on individual needs.
Paradigm’s Case Management Solutions bring our signature outcomes-focused, human-centered approach to the industry’s most expansive set of case management programs. Our caring and highly trained case managers use reliable data-driven methods, backed by clinical expertise, to help injured workers navigate an often challenging recovery process with both clarity and confidence.
To achieve cost-effective results that return a broad spectrum of injured workers back to their families and communities requires dedicated solutions that suit a variety of needs. The following programs are built to accomplish this, and are at the core of what establishes Paradigm Case Management Solutions as a leader in workers’ compensation.
Field Case Management
Certain cases, particularly those that involve highly complex injuries, require case managers to provide in-person assessment and support. The Field Case Management unit at Paradigm consists of more than 800 skilled case managers serving on the front lines to ensure positive clinical and cost outcomes. Paradigm Case Managers leverage clinical expertise and proprietary data insights to guide care.
Above all, Paradigm selects and develops case managers who understand how to communicate and build rapport with everyone they encounter in the process—including employers, insurers, injured workers, and their families. This commitment to compassionate service, in tandem with our expert-guided, data-driven approach, has led to a 93% success rate in obtaining a medical release to return to work and an over 5:1 return on investment (ROI) for field case management files.
Telephonic Case Management
While the challenges presented by the pandemic have required creative approaches to case management service delivery, Paradigm has always recognized the value and importance of virtual and telephonic services. With a vast offering of general, dedicated, and on-site telephonic case management services, our telephonic case managers provide the same level of care and support as our field case managers.
This exceptional team provides nationwide coverage, licensure, and experience in every jurisdiction. By fully supporting injured workers, identifying appropriate care, monitoring progress, coordinating treatment, and expediting medically appropriate return to work, our telephonic case managers are able to achieve an 88% release to return to work rate on telephonic referrals.
24/7 Nurse Triage Service
With our 24/7 Nurse Triage Service, Paradigm is able to intervene within moments of a workplace injury to ensure proper care. In just one encounter, these highly trained case managers seamlessly transition injured workers from triage to the most appropriate setting for care. With guidance from our nurse triage service, the injury can be effectively addressed in many cases with self-care. When medical treatment is necessary, we can direct treatment within a work site-specific preferred provider panel. Customers often choose to include telepresence and telemedicine as a triage option.
Our nurses can coordinate a physician telemedicine visit, if needed, without the employee leaving the work site. This streamlined approach reduces both unnecessary ER visits as well as recordable injuries. In fact, 75% of calls handled by the Paradigm Nurse Triage Service remain non-OSHA recordable.
Vocational Services and Transitional Return to Work
Paradigm has a comprehensive suite of vocational rehabilitation services, one of which is Transitional Return to Work. This program is built to facilitate return to work for injured workers while they are within their healing period. Placement can be either at the employer’s location or at a nonprofit organization. Paradigm Case Management Solutions uses a team of Transitional Return to Work Specialists and an established network of work sites to quickly place injured workers in positions that strictly align with their restrictions.
The goal is to provide an option to employers who are unable to accommodate the injured worker’s physical restrictions. Transitional return to work focuses on an employee’s abilities, rather than their injuries, while maintaining the employee’s self-esteem, sense of productivity, and routine. By keeping the focus squarely on the injured worker and a positive outcome, 90% of these cases close with a medical return-to-work release, at a 5:1 average ROI.
