Kids’ Chance Awareness Week: Help Identify Kids in Need

The close alliance between Paradigm and Kids’ Chance of America continues to grow. This week, we want to share what some of our colleagues have to say about how and why they bring this great philanthropy to life in their work.

“To be able to create something good and positive for kids who have experienced such a tragedy in their lives is a powerful thing,” says Carol DiPietro, Vice President, Sales. “I’m excited and proud to be part of Kids’ Chance of Massachusetts, working to increase awareness and to help this important organization grow and develop.”

“It has been an honor and a joy to be involved in the development and growth of the Kids’ Chance of New York, and to inform/educate injured workers and their families about the opportunities offered through Kids’ Chance,” says Deb Benson, Senior Director of Clinical Services.

“Being involved with Kids’ Chance of America for the past six years has been indescribably rewarding,” says Kevin Turner, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer. “What started as an effort to financially support a cause which aligned with Paradigm’s business, became a personal passion.”

And these words from scholarship recipient Christi, a student at the University of Texas at Tyler, will leave you wanting to know more about what you can do to help.

“Ideally, I would like to be a trauma nurse and work in the Emergency Room tending to patients that need urgent or critical care. The Kids’ Chance scholarship that I received has impacted me in the best way possible. Going into my first year of college I was unsure of how I was going to be able to afford paying for my next 3 years, but after getting this scholarship I have much less to worry about. I will be able to use the scholarship money toward my education and feel comfortable knowing that it will decrease my financial burden exponentially.”

Scholarship applications increased significantly in 2016, but we know there are more students in need of assistance. Kids’ Chance Awareness Week is designed to increase visibility through special outreach events in each state that will spread the word about Kids’ Chance scholarship opportunities.

There are currently 39 Kids’ Chance state organizations with several additional states in the planning stages. The goal is to establish a Kids’ Chance presence in every state so that all eligible students can access scholarship assistance.

For those of us who spend time in regular communication with seriously and fatally injured workers and their families, there’s now a simple tool to identify children in need.

You can use this online form http://www.kidschance.org/planning-for-the-future/ to submit a student’s information for potential scholarship opportunities. Kids’ Chance will collect and maintain contact information for these scholarship applicants so they can reach out to them when the time comes to start considering life after high school.

Because attending college isn’t the only educational future students can choose, scholarships are available to students with a range of educational pursuits.

Together, we’ve already helped more than 600 students, and with your continued involvement, we can grow that number.
