Kids’ Chance Leaders Share Inspiration at Network Managers’ Summit

Kevin Turner, president of Kids’ Chance of America, promoted the Kids’ Chance mission to more than 350 people attending Paradigm’s Network Managers’ Summit in Colorado Springs, CO in October. “I encourage you to give your time and leadership ability to support Kids’ Chance in the states where you’re active,” Turner told the group, which was largely comprised of catastrophic case managers from all over the United States.

Turner outlined goals for KCOA in 2019, including securing new and continued financial commitments from industry partners that would allow KCOA and state organizations to reach more kids in need.
“State organizations need leadership support, sponsors, and kids of any age for scholarships,” said Turner, who is chief sales officer for Paradigm Outcomes.

Seth Frohman, vice president of scholarships for California Kids’ Chance, shared his inspiration for volunteering: the students. One example is Jaden Raye — a scholarship recipient and recent University of California Berkeley graduate. “Jaden was one of our first scholars,” Frohman told the group. “And Jaden really is an inspiration. Her mother was injured when she was 13 and she worked as a waitress to support herself and her brother, also a Kids’ Chance of California scholarship recipient.”

Frohman said the California organization has had great success increasing the number of scholarship applications. The group had a great response from a direct letter-writing campaign from State Compensation Insurance Fund of California to their claimants, as well as outreach to high school guidance counselors publicizing the Kids’ Chance scholarship program. “We went from 9 to 39 scholarship applications. That’s a good problem to have,” Frohman said. “So, as you identify students of injured workers, send them our way.”
