National Nurses Month 2024: Nurses Light Up the Sky—and Paradigm

Nurses Make the Difference

With celebrations including National Nurses Week and Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May has always been a special month for nurses. To ensure nurses receive the recognition and support they deserve for their invaluable contributions to healthcare, the National Nurses Association expanded the observation to a full month last year. The 2024 theme, “Nurses Make the Difference,” perfectly encapsulates the life-changing compassion and dedication nurses, including the exceptional nurses at Paradigm, demonstrate every single day.

This year, during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, cities across the United States participated in a special campaign—Nurses Light Up the Sky—to rally support for nurses. Landmarks including the Wrigley Building in Chicago, the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, the Capella Tower in Minneapolis, the Houston City Hall, and even Niagara Falls lit up on selected nights during the week.

Nurses make the difference at Paradigm
Throughout the month of May, Paradigm has also been proud to shine a light on the amazing care our nurses provide to help seriously injured workers and their families recover and thrive in extremely challenging situations. Below are just a few examples of some of our incredible colleagues.

Kimberly White, Case Manager
Kimberly received glowing feedback from an injured worker she assisted while recovering from a work-related accident. Throughout the entire experience, this person was repeatedly impressed by Kimberly’s dedication, commitment, and compassion. This injured patient wanted to ensure that she was recognized for delivering prompt and timely service, for answering any and all questions, and for going above and beyond to minimize uncertainty and stress throughout their entire recovery journey. Thank you for your unwavering support, Kimberly!

Jennifer Doyle Fiddler, Director, Clinical Solutions
Jennifer, a master’s-prepared nurse who has deep expertise in the management of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, leads our HERO MSK℠ team. Jennifer has been involved in all phases of the development of this new product and supports the case managers and care coordinators to implement this unique value-based solution in the workers’ compensation population. Way to blaze the trail, Jennifer!

Lara Baatz, Occupational Health Nurse
Lara works to deliver health and safety programs for injured workers onsite at Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in South Dakota. For all of the wonderful support she provides, Julie Ewing, Director of Environment, Safety, and Health for the facility shared the following: “Lara not only provides an exceptional level of healthcare to our employees, but she is also a true friend to her patients. The staff here trust her. She is a great example of all our core values at SURF. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with her.” Lara, it’s evident the difference you are making in your patients’ lives.

Amanda Hopkins, Network Manager
Amanda has been with Paradigm since January 2018 and her commitment to her work is evident in the heartfelt message she received from the daughter of an injured worker. The message expressed immense gratitude, calling Amanda an “angel,” and thanking her for all she has done. In addition to this family member, three other families described Amanda as an angel, so it’s fitting that she was gifted a desk placard bearing her name with the picture of an angel. As a daily reminder of this inspiring connection, Amanda now keeps that placard on her desk. We’re honored to have Amanda on our team!

Jennifer Land, Case Manager
Not only does Jennifer make a difference in the lives of our injured workers and their families, but she recently made a difference abroad on a medical mission to the Dominican Republic. With a background in obstetrics and pediatrics, she and the team were able to see 533 patients in four days. Using basic medical equipment in the heat without air conditioning, Jennifer described the work as life-changing and perspective-shifting. Jennifer, your work here and abroad truly inspires us!

Michelle Baker, Senior Director, Clinical Network Operations
In addition to her role with Network Managers at Paradigm, Michelle serves as a Commissioner on the Commission for Case Manager Certification. Michelle co-authored a recent CEU article published in the Case Management Society of America’s Professional Case Management Journal. These activities benefit the profession of case management well beyond the walls of Paradigm. Michelle, your passion for continuing education is unmatched and we’re lucky to have you leading our teams.
