Paradigm is proud to share that Dana Moore, one of the injured workers supported by our Catastrophic Care Management team, was honored in the Injured Worker category at this year’s WorkCompCentral Comp Laude Awards in Huntington Beach, CA.
The Comp Laude Gala celebrates brave, resilient individuals who have suffered an industrial injury and overcome tremendous physiological and psychological hardship on their road to recovery.
In 2013, as an assistant driller on a drilling rig, Dana experienced a complete spinal cord injury (SCI) when a 400-pound pipe fell and hit the back of his head and neck. With substantial support and guidance from Paradigm Medical Director Kenneth Parsons, MD, and Network Manager, Doreen Casuto, RN, CCM, CRRN, Dana embraced his rehabilitation activities with determination and has achieved an outstanding recovery. He is independent and self-sufficient at a wheelchair level, both in the home and in the community.
Dana achieved a release to return to sedentary work. He gives back to others experiencing similar challenges as a volunteer with VIP NeuroRehab.
“Doreen always wanted to get me the best care in every situation, and with her leading the way, I’ve been able to get my independence back,” Dana says.
He was determined to manage the pain that is so often a challenge for SCI survivors without reliance on narcotics. With support and clinical coordination from Director of Clinical Services Deborah Benson, PhD, Dana used other coping strategies, such as acupuncture, massage, and regular physical exercise to effectively manage his pain.
“Paradigm knows what you need to get back to your everyday life, and they helped me get my independence back,” he says.
Dana’s story is a remarkable example of how Paradigm teams achieve the best possible outcomes by focusing on value-based care, placing the injured worker and their family at the center of a comprehensive care plan.
You can learn more about Dana and other resilient injured workers in the NCCI video, Back to Work: The Faces of Workers Compensation.
Congratulations to Dana and his Paradigm Management Team on this wonderful recognition.
