Paradigm Outcomes’ Founder Nathan Cope, MD

More than 20 years ago, Nathan Cope, M.D., set out to help patients with catastrophic injuries—the result of which was Paradigm Outcomes. But Dr. Cope did more than create a company—he changed the way complex cases were managed. Let’s learn a little more about the man behind the vision.

Dr. Nathan Cope: Before Paradigm Outcomes

Before founding Paradigm Outcomes, Dr. Nathan Cope held prominent positions in some of the nation’s leading hospitals. He was the Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford Medical Center; Chief of the Brain Injury Program at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC; Chief of Rehabilitation at Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital, and Director of the Head Injury Program at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Dr. Cope also traveled around the world speaking about catastrophic head and spinal cord injuries, and he received the 2009 Risk Innovator Award from Risk & Insurance.

As Dr. Nathan Cope practiced medicine, he noticed the healthcare system made it difficult for patients with complex injuries to receive the care they needed. From inconsistent medical practices to miscommunication during handoffs, the current structure wasn’t working as well as it should. He set out to build a comprehensive system for knowledgeable and consistent oversight that became Paradigm Outcomes.

A New Way of Helping Injured Workers

Paradigm Outcomes applies its proprietary Systematic Care ManagementSM model to manage a range of catastrophic and complex conditions including spinal cord injuries, amputations, burns and chronic pain. This outcomes-oriented approach ensures consistent, expert oversight of the injured worker’s entire continuum of care. Paradigm’s teams collaborate with treating providers, coordinate care and identify and mitigate potential risks. This care management approach has helped more than 12,000 injured workers achieve the highest possible functional outcomes.

Thanks to the vision of Dr. Nathan Cope, Paradigm Outcomes is able to provide the highest-quality catastrophic and complex care management available. For more information, be sure to check out our YouTube channel and visit us on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.
