Over the past week, Paradigm celebrated Kids’ Chance of America Awareness Week from November 7–11. Now in its eighth year, this event raises visibility for the Kids’ Chance mission to help children of injured workers—or workers who have lost their lives on the job—pursue their educational dreams without financial burden. Starting in1988 with a single presence in the state of Georgia, Kids’ Chance has distributed more than $33 million across 9,300 total scholarship awards.
This year, Kids’ Chance was especially thrilled to finally achieve a long-standing goal—to have a presence in all 50 states! With the founding of a chapter in Wyoming, Kids’ Chance is now truly helping kids nationwide. Moving forward, the objective for supporters will be to ensure that each and every chapter, affiliate organization, and the associate organization continue to grow and thrive.
Changing lives is a team effort
For more than a decade, Paradigm has worked closely with Kids’ Chance to change lives and achieve its mission of giving more money to more kids. As our primary philanthropic partner, Paradigm has proudly contributed more than $1.36 million to the cause. Our team members also serve in key roles within the Kids’ Chance organization, including Chief Growth Officer Kevin Turner, who was Kids’ Chance President from 2018-2020, and currently serves on the Executive Board.
At the center of Paradigm’s support is the Kids’ Chance Community Team. This fellowship of 26 team members engages with and supports state and national chapters by attending fundraisers, meetings, and other events. “In a world full of uncertainty, we are grateful to have an organization like Kids’ Chance that keeps children’s dreams alive. I’m proud to help ease financial worries and enable children to achieve their educational goals,” says Fid Guerrero, Regional Sales Executive, who also serves on the board of Kids’ Chance of Nevada.
Remarkable stories from remarkable kids
The impact Kids’ Chance makes on the lives of these young people truly shines through the remarkable stories of the scholarship recipients.
Trent is a shining example of the kind of life-changing effect Kids’ Chance has on recipients. A Kids’ Chance scholarship has enabled him to attend the University of Idaho to pursue a career in agricultural engineering. “The caring people who have donated this money to me have also invested in my dreams to become an agricultural engineer who will discover and improve the agricultural world.”
Yet another inspiring story is Molly. After losing her father in a tragic workplace accident, she was able to graduate from the LSU College of Business in three and a half years with a degree in accounting—and a year later, obtain a master’s degree in accounting. As she says, “Losing a parent unexpectedly is never easy, but having family, friends, and the community rally to support you helps ease the pain and shows you that there is so much good in this world. The Kids’ Chance community supported me throughout my college education, and for that, I am extremely grateful.”
Encouraging results in the 2022 Annual Impact Report
The most recent annual report for Kids’ Chance covers the period from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021. According to the 2022 Annual Impact Report, Kids’ Chance awarded 668 scholarships totaling $2,746,443, with an average scholarship amount of $4,111. These figures demonstrate that, despite the impact of the pandemic, the program has maintained strong national performance.
