Paradigm Introduces Michael Choo, MD, as Chief Medical Officer

WALNUT CREEK, CA – January 22, 2013 – Paradigm Outcomes, the nation’s leading provider of catastrophic medical management services, today announced the appointment of Michael Choo, MD, to the role of Chief Medical Officer.  He is responsible for leading research and development, enhancing clinical operations and maintaining the company’s provider relationships.  Dr. Choo becomes only the third person to fill this important role in the company’s 21 year history.

Dr. Choo’s experience as a clinical physician and leader of accomplished provider organizations make him well qualified to further advance Paradigm’s market leading clinical and financial outcomes.  For the past three years, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio, where he led the successful conversion from a county-owned not-for-profit operation to a private equity-owned for-profit company.  Dr. Choo began his career as an emergency medicine specialist physician and later added to his expertise by becoming medical director of an occupational health clinic and a hyperbaric medicine and wound center.  He also founded and managed an emergency medicine physician group.

“Dr. Choo excels at building successful organizations,” said Paradigm Chief Executive Officer and Chairman James Hudak.  “He has grown start-ups, enhanced mid-sized organizations and turned around large institutions.  This track record combined with the knowledge, compassion and quick thinking of an emergency medicine physician make him a good fit for carrying out Paradigm’s mission.”

Dr. Choo is a board certified physician in emergency medicine.  He earned his bachelor’s and medical degree from Boston University’s accelerated honors program in medicine, and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the St. Vincent Medical Center and Toledo Hospital.  He earned his MBA from the University of Tennessee School of Business Administration.  He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, where he is also a board member.

“I’m excited to join the executive team at Paradigm because we have a shared vision,” said Dr. Choo.  “The people here are deeply committed to delivering the best possible medical and financial outcomes for the most complex injuries and chronic conditions.  I’m eager to apply my clinical and entrepreneurial mindset here for continued success.”
